    Principal’s Message:

Washington Union School provides an outstanding environment for 4th and 5th grade students to learn and succeed!  It is our mission to create a safe, friendly, dynamic learning environment; to promote excellence in student academic achievement challenging the ability of each individual; to nurture positive personal, social, and civic growth and responsibility; and to instill a lifelong love of learning.

As expressed in our mission statement we strive to build a community of learners that are motivated, successful, and challenged.  We recognize and accept individual differences and promote personal potential in all.  Celebrating a collaborative climate and supporting a safe school environment for all students provides a positive atmosphere that is pervasive on our campus.

The school serves 210 students in the 4th and 5th grades with an average class size of 27 students.  Teachers work closely together to plan dynamic lessons and share students for science and social studies lessons.  Throughout the year students work on the life skills of honesty, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship, and character.

Each year the fourth graders take a trip to Columbia and other Gold Rush sites during their study of early California.  They also visit Mission San Juan Bautista, Historic Monterey and the Elkhorn Slough. Fifth grade students spend a week in March at Mount Herman for outdoor science school. Art and music are staples of our district, thanks to programs provided by the Washington Union Education Foundation (WUEF).

This year we will again participate in the Hour of Code from December 4th -8th. All students will learn how to write code! Please check out the video to learn more and encourage your child to learn as well.

We are proud to have a collaborative base of parents, students, and staff working together to provide the best possible environment for successful academic rigor and social/emotional growth during the fourth and fifth grades.

As your Principal and District Curriculum Director for the 2017-2018 school year, I invite you  to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to meeting all of you and to collaborating with all of our school community.

    Sincerely,

    Whitney Meyer
